Welcome back everyone,
So today I wanted to talk about something that I personally deal with and I know that so many others do as well. In fact, I see a lot of posts about it on twitter and Instagram. That topic is Medication Stigma. In other words, people shaming others or trying to make them feel bad because they take medication for their Mental Health.
First off, I want to say to anyone that is doing this to other people, you should be ashamed of yourself! Because it is not only completely wrong but also highly inappropriate to do. For those of you like me that have to take a fist full of medications in the morning, to help us cope and or get through the day with our Mental Health or Physical Health, it is OKAY to have to take medicine.
There is NO shame in needing a little help to cope with our illnesses. In fact, some are even just needed for us to function. For example, I take medication every evening that helps me with my mood swings, as well as helps me prevent Night Terrors so that I can actually get a decent amount of sleep at night and function from day to day.
NEVER be ashamed to admit you take medication and don’t ever let anyone make you feel like you are any less of a person if you do. They have absolutely NO idea what you go through on a daily basis or even the demons that you fight just to get out of bed and get the simplest of tasks completed.
WE should never have to apologize for having a Mental Illness or physical ailment for that matter, that requires us to take medication! It is honestly just a fact of life sometimes; people’s body’s need a little extra boost to help it function and create the proper chemicals to be balanced.
So I hope that you remember that it is okay to talk about your medication and it is NEVER anything to be ashamed of EVER!!!!!!
I want to hear from all of you, do you take Medications? If so, have you ever experienced a Stigma associated with those Medications? Let me know in the comments I would love to hear from all of you!
